Rants and Raves: hard for gay marriage. -
As a muslim, my religion (like many others) dictates that I should be against gay marriage and people getting gay married. but as an American, it is my duty to support gay marriage—not because we live in a hedonistic society, but rather, a heterogenous one. If I was in Japan, Iran, Brazil, this conversation would be different. The majority of the people there are of one ideology, of one race, of one religion. Being against gay marriage there is probably more socially acceptable.
Granted, the above isn’t at all my main reason for supporting gay marriage, but I believe it is the way our country should be run. We need to realize that America is different—not in the whole ‘America! FUCK YEA!’ sense, but rather in the variation in this society. I believe that our political leaders do not have the right to enter their own religious, socioeconomic, and cultural beliefs into ANY decision simply due to the mere variation of the people in this country. I wish all politicians would realize that their people do not have one general view on things, but I expect countries like America, Canada, and Australia to have politicians who look beyond their own backwards concepts and take a step for the people.
Y’all aren’t gonna get leprosy if you support people getting gay married. Nor are you going to all die if you finally consider me an American. (no biggie I was born here..raised here…just sayin’)
